  1. I love this post! I think sibs sometimes "get it" better than anyone else. Sometimes even better than the parents. Sibs can have the best balance between protecting/defending and treating them just like any other kid.

  2. I love this post. It made me tear up, only because I get it. I have a disabled child who has 4 other sisters and brother. They give so much of them selves on a daily level. They will grow up to be what america needs more of. Loving everyone for who they are, instead of what the world thinks they should be! Thanks again.

  3. Not only are our CCHS kids special, but so are their siblings. Regardless of how difficult the diagnosis is, it does tend to bring families together and allows the siblings to become more sensitive to special needs and more accepting of differences. I am so proud of my girls because they do not treat Noah any differently than anyone else and they take such good care of him. They are quick to explain why he has a trach and has to sleep on a vent and are great about making people more aware of his condition.

I am so impressed that your daughter quit cheering because her sister was not accepted. My girls are the same way with Noah. They can fuss at him and aggravate him but will not allow anyone else to mess with him.

I think sometimes it is so easy for us to overlook their needs when dealing with all of the stuff that our CCHS kids require. We can only do the best we can. I think it is so important do do as you are doing and explain to them everything that is happening and let them help take care of their sibling and even be a part of the decision making to some extent.

Shelley, you are doing a wonderful job with your girls. I really wish I could meet you and them someday.

    1. I hope we can as well. I feel like I have known you for years eventhough we have never met. Thank you Justine a Maria, and Melinda. I am so glad you guys feel the same way about all our precious children.

  4. Such a great blog! My cousin has a little girl Juliet who is missing her entire 9th chromosome. There is no record of anyone missing the entire chromosome, so every day unveils a new mystery for them. However, Juliet's older sister gets annoyed with her from time to time and has even been known to draw blood from a bite once. lol! Sisters!
